I got to Mobara, Chiba last night because the students have a homestay program for 5 days with various generous Japanese families in the area. Immediately, I recognized the differences: car-heavy, fast food… and of course, buy-in-bulk superstores. In fact, my hotel faces JUSCO, which is exactly what it sounds like: Japanese Wal-Mart.
